Doctors David Reed and William Sacco

Dr. David L. Reed was a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and a Founding Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. He obtained his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Florida in 1993. There, he focused on health psychology and depression. His scientific publications continue to be read and referenced.

After completing his Ph.D., he completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy at the Center for Cognitive Therapy, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.  He then served as a Clinical Instructor in Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School for eight years, from 1995 to 2003. His private practice specialized in the application of CBT-I.

During his career, Dr. Reed delivered numerous training sessions to mental health and medical professionals on the treatment of insomnia. The SomniSkills Workbook is the product of his strong desire to share the benefits of CBT-I with people suffering from insomnia. Dr. Reed died after having written a nearly complete version of this Workbook.

Dr. William P. Sacco is currently Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychology at the University of South Florida. Dr. Sacco was a full-time faculty member for the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program for 35 years, from 1979 – 2014. He was trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy at the Center for Cognitive Therapy, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he completed his predoctoral internship.

As a clinical supervisor for the University of South Florida’s Psychological Services Center, Dr. Sacco guided doctoral students in delivering CBT-I. He is also co-author, with Aaron T. Beck, M.D., of two book chapters on the Cognitive Therapy of Depression. Dr. Sacco has published over 50 journal articles and book chapters.

At the University of South Florida, he served as Chairman of the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology and Director of Clinical Training for six years, and as the Psychology Department’s Associate Chair and Graduate Program Director for two years.
